この度、あしたの畑の活動にかねてより参加している⾹港を拠点とするアーティスト・作曲家のサムソン・ヤンと箏奏者のLEOによるパフォーマンスを来る12⽉2⽇（⼟）に初披露します。

このパフォーマンスは、ヤンがLEOのために作曲した新譜であり、古典演奏から現代のテクノロジーを取り⼊れた箏の可能性を最⼤限に広げる活動を⾏なっているLEOに共感したヤンとヤンのアートに感銘を受けたLEOとの1⽇限りの共作です。

開催場所は、かつて奈良に都が定まるまで⼤陸との交流が盛んだったであろう港のひとつ、間⼈港の近く、来秋、あしたの畑のギャラリーとしてオープン予定の元絹織物⼯場、丗｜SEI 間⼈です。

10⽉7⽇より開催している企画展「ECHO」を締めくくる箏パフォーマンスと、冬の丹後にぜひお越しください。

【楊嘉輝（サムソン・ヤン）】

サウンド、パフォーマンス、映像、インスタレーションなど、様々な分野を横断し活動するアーティスト。 2013年プリンストン⼤学で作曲の博⼠号を取得。第57回ベネチア・ビエンナーレに⾹港代表（2017年）。 BMW Art Journey Award（2015年）、アルス・エレクトロニカ・サウンドアート＆デジタルミュージック部⾨準優勝（2019年）、第１回ウリ・シグ賞（2020年）。

【LEO】

9 歳より箏を始める。くまもと全国邦楽コンクール史上最年少となる16 歳で最優秀賞・⽂部科学⼤⾂賞受賞。 2021年藤倉⼤委嘱新作の箏協奏曲を世界初演。ブルーノート東京、サマーソニックなど箏奏者としては異例のステージにも登場している。出光⾳楽賞（2019年）、神奈川⽂化賞未来賞（2019年）、横浜⽂化賞⽂化・芸術奨励賞（2023年）受賞。

We are pleased to announce that the koto performance “TWO TREES FOR KOTO” will be taken place in SEI TAIZA (3329 Taiza Tangocho, Kyotango) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Artist/composer based in Hong Kong, Samson Young, composed 20 minutes score especially for LEO, who is expanding the possibilities of the koto. This will be the first time they collaborate together. Koto was originally from China (5th-6th CE) and introduced to Japan around 8th CE. It has now become an instrument for court music. The string was originally made of silk. Tango region where Taiza is located is one of the major silk weaving industries in Japan.

Young carefully studied how koto is developed in both Chinese and Japanese contexts and created his music exclusively for LEO to play in Taiza.

The harmony that two cultures of Japan and Hong Kong now once again meet in Taiza where used to flourish in the ancient times.

The building of SEI TAIZA that will be the venue used to be a textile mill where, until recently, weaving machines were lined up.

We hope you enjoy the koto performance that concludesthe exhibition "ECHO" which has been held since October 7 and the harmony between the two cultures of Japan and Hong Kong, once again woven together in a place where once rich cultural exchanges were carried out through the sea.

【Samson Young (b.1979, Hong Kong) 】

Samson Young works in sound, performance, video, and installation. He graduated with PhD in Music Composition from Princeton University, and represented Hong Kong with a solo project at the 57th Venice Biennale. He was the recipient of the BMW Art Journey Award, a Prix Ars Electronica Award of Distinction in Sound Art and Digital Music, and the inaugural Uli Sigg Prize.

【LEO (b.1998, Yokohama, Japan) 】

In 2014, he became the youngest recipient of the highest award, the Minister of Education Award of the Japanese Hougaku Music Contest. In 2021, he performed the world premiere of the new koto concerto commissioned by Dai Fujikura. He performed at Blue Note Tokyo, the first time for a koto player, and also made an unprecedented appearance at SUMMER SONIC. He was the recipient of Idemitsu Music Award, Culture and Future Prize, Kanagawa Culture Award, and Yokohama Cultural Award Culture and Arts Encouragement Award.
